At least 5,000 people a month die in the ongoing genocide in the Sudan. 6,430 Palestinian people have been killed in the conflict in the Middle East since the year 2000. Even here in Chicago's South Side there is a daily tragedy. Now, I ask you, WHO CARES about Charlie Sheen???

Judge not lest ye be Judged....

U.S. Will No Longer Defend Anti-Gay Marriage Law

Attorney General Eric Holder, pictured earlier this month in Indianapolis, said the Justice Department has defended the law until now because the government was able to advance reasonable arguments for the law based on a less strict standard.

The Obama administration says a federal law that bans recognition of same-sex marriage is unconstitutional and has directed the Justice Department not to defend the law anymore in court cases across the country.

The decision announced Wednesday represents a big victory for gay rights activists.

"From now on, the Justice Department will no longer fight to support the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act in court. But the government will continue to enforce the law across the executive branch unless Congress repeals it or a federal judge throws it out."

Mubarak Uprising



Frankly the videos from the following article are the most compelling coverage of of civil unrest I've seen in a while (and I've seen a lot of really touching stuff --it is black history month after all):

Vice-President Omar Suleiman made the announcement on state television

Hosni Mubarak has stepped down as president of Egypt, after weeks of protest in Cairo and other cities.

The news was greeted with a huge outburst of joy and celebration by thousands in Cairo's Tahrir Square - the heart of the demonstrations.

Mr Mubarak ruled for 30 years, suppressing dissent and protest, and jailing opponents.

US President Barack Obama said that Egypt must now move to civilian and democratic rule.

This was not the end but the beginning and there were difficult days ahead, the US president added, but he was confident the people could find the answers.

"The people of Egypt have spoken, their voices have been heard," Mr Obama said. "Egypt will never be the same again."

"They have made it clear that nothing less than genuine democracy will carry the day."
